FOX Registers "Days Of Future Past"
Update: IGN has confirmed from X-Men producer Bryan Singer, X-Men Days of Future Past!
According to Ain't It Cool News, FOX has registered the title "Days of Future Past", with the MPAA Title Registration Bureau. The report does not say if FOX plans to use this story line in the sequel to last years X-Men: First Class, but it makes sense considering how First Class ended.
At the end of First Class, the US government found out that mutants exist, and that some are a threat to humanity. How will the US government respond with this new unforeseen development? Will they just let the mutants go about their lives, fighting their own little wars? Let's take a look......(Warning Spoilers).......
"Days of Future Past", is a popular Marvel Comics storyline, that debuted in the The Uncanny X-Men issues #141 and #142, published in 1981. It is about a dystopian future where mutants are kept in concentration type camps by giant robots called Sentinals. The story focuses on two point of views, switching between the future and present. In the future, Kitty Pryde uses her mind to travel back in time to possess her own body, and fore-warn the X-Men of their impending doom. The way FOX has set up the tone in First Class, may cause some issues adapting this story.
Kitty Pryde was already in X-Men 3 and since FOX wants to make this series tie in to the older films, Kitty is much too young to appear in First Class 2.
Use Wolverine! He already made a cameo in First Class, so having him appear in the film is a no brainer. Getting Hugh Jackman to star would add a huge draw for the box office. Plus, it's an excellent opportunity to bring Wolverine into the First Class series. In "Days of Future Past", an aging Wolverine is fighting for survival, while protecting other mutants. Hugh Jackman is not getting any younger, which would allow him to play an older Wolverine and make sense.
This also gives FOX an opportunity to introduce new characters. They can steal a page from their own 1990's "X-Men Animated Series", and introduce Bishop. In the animated series, Bishop replaced Kitty Pryde in the story, and was the one who went back in time. Cable, a mutant from the future and son of Cyclops could also make sense to replace Kitty Pryde.
Bring in Fantastic Four! The sequel "Days of Future Present", follows Franklin Richards, the son of Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman. FOX wants to reboot Fantastic Four. This could be an ideal way to reboot a franchise, and allow the studio to follow Marvel Studio's crossover plan.
FOX could decide to start with, "Wolverine: Days Of Future Past." This story deals with the reason for the creation of the future universe, leading right into, "Uncanny X-Men" 141-142. This could be the main story for First Class 2, with part 3 closing it out.
Well FOX, you most defiantly have your work cut out for you. This is an opportunity to create the best X-Men movie possibly. With all the different was you can go, there really is no excuse why you can't make a great film.

Phoenix Saga Movie
When the original X-Men was released in 2000, it was clear that FOX and director Bryan Singer were going for a more realistic take on Marvel's premiere X-team. Unfortunately, this led to a very poor Phoenix/Dark Phoenix story line.
"The Phoenix Saga" is regarded as one of the greatest story arcs in comic book history. It deserves to be treated by Hollywood as such. Without getting to much into it, this story contains alien empires, wormholes, moon battles, and even the consumption of a star!
With the recent success of The Avengers, Marvel Studios has successfully established their expanded universe with the general audience. FOX no longer has to keep up with an ultra realistic tone in X-Men. Our beloved mutants can travel to other galaxies and battle aliens on the big screen.
Bringing the Phoenix back on the big screen would be a huge undertaking, and would require at least three movies to pull off. With its huge cast of characters and plot points, it would require a director that could handle an assemble cast. Joss Whedon has already proved with Avengers, that he could do it. I'm fairly confident that if FOX chose to make this story, Whedon would be honored to do it if asked. If there is one director in Hollywood that knows the importance of this amazing Saga, it would be Whedon.
There is no doubt that the Phoenix will see a rebirth (pun intended) on the big screen. That is, of course, if the studios are willing to do it proper.
In the words of Stan Lee "Have faith true believers!" 'Nuff said!

CBS Will Broadcast Major League Gaming On TV This Fall
Wait. What?!? Yes, it is true, CBS will broadcast Major League Gaming this fall. CBS Interactive Games, which has an exclusive partnership with MLG to sell advertising for its events, has gotten lots of attention while streaming MLG through Gamespot.
No date has been set to when this all might air, but this would certainty be a win-win for both parties. As well as establishing eSports as a creditable "sport".
Looks like I will have to start tuning into CBS.

Venom Movie Still On Track
With The Avengers movie making billions, it would make sense for other studios to follow Marvel's "Phase one" plan.
According to Hollywood.com, Producer Matt Tolmach said, "Look for the worlds [of The Amazing Spider-Man and Venom] to make sense with another." He said, "Hopefully, all these worlds will live together in peace someday."
Producer Avi Arad also mentioned which Venom character the movie will focus on. "It's an Eddie Brock story," said Arad, who was a producer on Venom's last big screen appearance, Spider-Man 3. "We want to be as close to the comics as possible. Especially in Eddie Brock's story. But again, pseudo-science is becoming science."
Chronicle director Josh Trank is still attached to direct Venom.

The collection will include: Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil. Doom 3 will also include a new level with seven new levels, a new boss and up to three hours of content.
Doom 3 is also getting a face lift. With updated visuals, 3D support, and a new control scheme for consoles.

The original game requires gamers to switch between their flashlight and gun when ported to console. A design choice that most gamers hated. Other complaints from gamers such as too-dark levels and difficulty have also been addressed for accessibility.

Must See Movies
I really love movies. I'm not a movie critic, nor do I write reviews. I'm just a die hard movie junkie. I had the pleasure of being born in the 70's, which allowed me to enjoy some of the best movies ever. I just assumed that everyone, at some point in their lives, would eventually see these great movies as well. Until now. I recently became aware that a lot of younger people have not seen, or even know these movies existed! So, in light of this amazing discovery, I've compiled a list of movies that I think should be watched by everyone.
Jaws 1975: Of all the movies on my list, I don't think a movie affected people's lives as much as Jaws. This movie kept people of beaches for months after its release! Jaws has fantastic acting, plenty of scare moments, and a very satisfying ending. The only problem younger generations might have with Jaws, is the shark. With today's special effects desensitizing everyone with mind blowing computer imagery, the shark might seem at times to be too fake.
Rocky 1976: The ultimate underdog story. Iconic movie character that launched Slyvester Stallone's career.
Star Wars 1977: If you haven't seen or heard of this franchise, stop reading this right now and watch them.
Halloween 1978: This is one of those rare horror films that pulls off all the scares perfectly, while showing little to no blood. Not to mention the theme song.
Alien 1979: "In space no one can hear you scream" This movie introduced us to the Xenomorph creature. Alien also had one of the most scariest scenes in movie history.
Friday the 13th 1980: Another great horror movie. This time with the use of blood and gore, also delivered on the scare factor.
Escape From New York 1981: With a main character named Snake Pliskin, how could you not want to watch this movie? Set in the future, New York becomes a prison where Snake is tasked with a simple rescue. Or so he thinks...
Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981: Just like Star Wars, if you haven't heard or seen this franchise, stop reading this and watch!
Evil Dead 1981: This film proves that you don't need a huge budget to scare the crap out of people. Just the shot of the cabin in the woods is enough to give you chills!
First Blood 1982: You can't help but root for John Rambo kicking the crap out of police officers. That alone, makes it a must watch.
The Thing 1982: Perfect example of how a re-make is actually better than the original. Not only will it scare you, but it's also a mind bender.
Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn 1982: Anyone who is a Trek fan or just a sci-fi fan in general, you owe it to yourself to watch this movie. Keep in mind while watching, Kahn and Kirk never actually shared the same scene with each other.
Terminator 1984: Time travel, robot assassins, and Linda Hamilton! This movie is non-stop action goodness.
Nightmare on Elm Street 1984: Much like Friday the 13th, it delivers the scare factor with an effective use of blood and gore. With the theme of dying in your nightmares, Elm Street has some of the most original death scenes.
Aliens 1986: Awwww Aliens, the sequel to Alien. My favorite movie of all time. This film changed science fiction movies forever. Action, multiple Xenomorphs, and amazing weapons made this movie epic! All creators of movies and video games stole from this film one way or another. Aliens director James Cameron even stole from his own film for Avatar.
Predator 1987: This film created the term "Will melt your face." It literally melted my face! This is the ultimate guy film! Tons of action, tons of death, and one kick ass end battle, makes this a must see.
Robocop 1987: Another movie that will melt your face! What could go wrong with a cyborg police officer seeking vengeance?
Running Man 1987: A film about people killing each other in a reality television show? Seems like a hot topic these days.
Bloodsport 1988: A little history about this film. Jean-Claude Van Damme was hired to play the role of the Predator in Predator. As soon as he was cast he got a 3 picture deal to star in his own films. Already committed to Predator, he was denied permission to get out of his contract. When the director of Predator said action, Van Damme, in the alien suit would just fall down. He would do this multiple times until he was fired. Now released from his contract, he started filming Bloodsport. The initial edit of the film was so bad it was shelved. Seeing his film career going up in flames, Van Damme volunteered for free, to edit the film. The rest is history. While Bloodsport may not have the best acting, it was based on a true story, and showcased great martial arts action.
Total Recall 1990: "Get you ass to Mars!" Another movie that will melt your face. It has bloody violent action scenes, Mars, a great ending, and most importantly...3 breasted alien hookers!
Tremors 1990: This monster film often called "Jaws on land" came out of nowhere and gained cult status very quickly. It has comedy, gore, old school practical effects, and giant freaking man eating worms!
Tremors was received well by critics and holds an 88% favorable rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Guyver Dark Hero 1994: This film is based on a popular Japanese anime Guyver: Bio Booster Armor. It features great martial arts action, blood, gore, and cool looking monsters. Guyver also proves that you can actually make a faithful adaptation of an anime and not suck.
Well that's my list! I know I left out movies that deserved to be seen. I could go on forever, but then how would anyone have time to watch these great films? If you enjoy movies and are looking to have a good time, you can't go wrong here. Happy viewing!

Wii U To Cost Over $300
Let me say that I'm not looking forward to the Wii U. I haven't been a hardcore Nintendo fan in a very long time. At the same time, I also know that people are generally excited about Nintendo's new system. Are they excited enough to pay what is rumored to be upwards of $300?
Recent reports that have surfaced claiming they know how much the "insides" of the Wii U costs, puts it at about $180. Originally thought to have a launch price of $299, this manufacturing cost would suggest a $300 or more price tag.
There have also been reports of anonymous game developers stating that the Wii U is not up to par graphically with the XBox 360 and PS3. Also there is a looming possibly of 2013 seeing the release of the " Xbox 720 and "PS4." Next gen systems that could be 10 times more powerful. If this is the case, will gamers still pay $300 or more for the Wii U?
I know one thing for sure, this gamer will wait for the other two.

Gears Of War: Exile Cancelled
Last year Epic Games trademarked Gears of War: Exile. Not much was know about the game, other than rumors of it being an on rails Kinect title. Pax East took place this past weekend, where GameStop asked Epic Games Lead Designer Cliff Bleszinski about the title.
“Let’s just bury the hatchet now. Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can’t give any details about that has since been cancelled.”
I was excited about this game as I'm a huge fan of the franchise. Sadly, it looks like gamers will never get the chance to play it.

Syfy Has A New Show Upcoming
The Syfy channel is developing a new show called Defiance. According to Deadline, Defiance takes place after Earth has been ravaged by decades of war. During which, humans and aliens live together on a planet transformed by alien terra -forming machines.
Cast as the series lead is Grant Bowler (Ugly Betty, True Blood) as Jeb Nolan, a law-keeper who fought in the alien war. His character is described as a lone wanderer in the wilds.
Also cast is Julie Benz (Dexter) and Jaime Murray (Warehouse 13). Benz will play the town's mayor Amanda, while Murrary will play the wife of a member of an elite alien race called Castithans. Syfy also plans to develop an MMO based on the series, with a launch planed with the series premiere.
It's been a long time since Syfy had a truly hardcore and serious science fiction show. It could be interesting.

The Hunger Games VS Battle Royale
When a big blockbuster movie is at least 30 days from release, a huge advertising campaign begins. Since The Hunger Games media blitz kicked off, there has been nonstop talk about how The Hunger Games is a rip off of Battle Royale. I don't know why people are making this comparison. Maybe it's because they both take place during a dystopian future. Maybe its because they are both about kids killing each other. Whatever the reason, it needs to stop. Both are movies based on books. Both have similarities no doubt, but they are hardly original concepts.
I believe Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins, when she says that she never heard of Battle Royale while creating her trilogy. I believe her because, from the examples I've listed below, I'll demonstrate just how long this subject matter has been around.
For those who may not know. A dystopian future is the idea of a society in a repressive and controlled state.
Spartacus and Roman Gladiators: While Spartacus has found popularity recently with a tv show, it's hardly fiction. Spartacus was a real person forced to fight to the death in an arena for the amusement of citizens. While some gladiators may have volunteered to compete in the arena, Spartacus was a captured slave and had no choice.
Death Race 2000: This 1975 film staring Sylvester Stallone, takes place in a dystopian future where an annual road race occurs, in which the participants kill each for the entertainment of others.
The Long Walk: This is a 1979 Stephen King novel, in which 100 teenage boys are forced to walk in a marathon. They are required to maintain an average speed of 4 miles per hour. If at anytime they fall below that speed, they are shot and killed.
The Running Man: Another Stephen King novel published in 1982. It takes place during a dystopian future, in which a game show has people being hunted and killed by "Hunters". This spawned a movie with the same name in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Marvel Comics Mojo: This character created in 1985 as an X-Men super villain. He is a slaver who rules the Mojoverse, a dystopian future dimension where all beings are addicted to his gladiator television programs, in which he forces slaves to kill each other. He kidnaps the X-Men and forces them to play the game in an attempt to boost ratings.
Hard Target: A 1993 film directed by Chinese director John Woo and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. In the movie, Van Damme must stop a man who holds a private hunting game in which the hunters pay $500,000 to hunt and kill people.
The Condemned: A 2007 film where 10 convicts fight to the death in a tournament broadcasted on the Internet.
Those are just a few examples. There a many more books and movies that are much older than these listed, that also have the same subject matter. Battle Royale is not even close to being an original concept. Which is why I don't understand this Hunger Games-Battle Royale rip off talk.
Both movies are great! The examples I listed are great as well! Instead of comparing these films, watch and enjoy them. While these two films are hardly original, (what movie is these days?) they both deserved to be watched. They both add something new to the table.

The Original Superhero: John Carter
When I was 14 years old, I turned in my first book report for English class. The report was for Starship Troopers, a popular science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein. After my first report was turned in, the teacher assigned each one of my classmates and I a new book. She handed me an extremely warn copy of A Princess of Mars, the first in a series of John Carter books (also known as the Barsoom series) by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Burroughs created the first John Carter story in 1912, then later turned into a novel in 1917. It is widely considered the pioneer of science fiction. In fact, many people think if John Carter had not been created, we wouldn't have some of the greatest science fiction we do today. Including Star Wars and Superman.
In 1975, George Lucas created a synopsis describing his story as "in the grand tradition of Edgar Rice Burroughs' 'John Carter of Mars,'" according to "The Star Wars Genesis," an article by Randy and Jean-Marc Lofficier. That synopsis later turned into Star Wars.
Carter's abilities come from Mars's low gravity. It gives Carter enhanced strength and agility, ability to jump great distances. Superman was created in 1938. Durning his early run in comics, Superman's powers came from the difference in Earth's gravity compared to his home planet of Krypton. Superman wasn't able to fly yet, but was able to leap a great distance, creating the term, "Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!" Carter is extremely honorable and courageous. Traits also found in Superman's character.
Carter is a former confederate solider who ends up in wild west Arizona, before being transported to Mars. The merging of western and sci-fi genres, gave influence to shows today like, Joss Whedon's Firefly series and Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's Cowboys and Aliens.
Durning A Princess of Mars, John Carter gets transported to a mysterious planet, finds himself aligned with one of the planets native tribes, and falls in love with the native princess. He fights to save his newly adopted people from tyranny and oppression. James Cameron was quoted in The New Yorker magazine saying "With ‘Avatar,’ I thought, Forget all these chick flicks and do a classic guys’ adventure movie, something in the Edgar Rice Burroughs mold, like John Carter of Mars—a soldier goes to Mars,” Cameron told me. The hero of “Avatar,” Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is a paraplegic ex-marine who travels to Pandora, a moon in the Alpha Centauri star system, where there is a human colony.". The final arena battle scene in Star Wars Episode II The Clone Wars, was heavily influenced by John Carter. Conan, Mad Max, and Star Trek all have influential examples. Even writer Michael Crichton named a character after John Carter.
Burroughs's novels have also influenced our earliest space program. It has inspired people to become astronauts, as well as NASA's interest in Mars itself.
Whether or not you have read the Barsoom series of novels. I encourage everyone who is a science fiction or fantasy fan, to think of some of your earliest memories of the genre. Keep in mind, that without
author Edgar Rice Burroughs's 100 year old novels, our lives may have turned out much differently.

Chronicle Director In Talks To Direct Venom
According to The LA Times, Chronicle director Josh Trank wants to direct a Venom movie, and is in talks to direct. Venom, which is a Marvel comics character, made his big screen debut in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. Since that time, rumors have been swirling around about a Venom spinoff.
Josh Trank's latest film, Chronicle, is a found footage movie about teens with super powers, got fairly good reviews, scoring 69 on Metacritic.
It would be interesting to see how he does with a more established character, and a much bigger budget.

Nielsen Ratings Disaster
Using a system thats over 60 years old to determine a shows rating is a shame. It's a complete disservice to the people who work very hard making good quality scripted shows.
For those who don't know, Nielson is a rating system based on a "survey" format. Meaning that Nielsen looks at a certain number of television viewers and determines what a viewership should be. It also requires the selected household to have a Nielsen box or Set Meters that are connected to the back of their television. It gathers the household viewing habits, from channel changes to skipping through commercials, and sends them directly to Nielsen nightly. There is an estimated 116 million television viewers in the United States. Only 25,000 households have a Nielsen box.
Using one of my favorite shows, Legend of the Seeker (LOTS) as an example. Here is how the boxes work: Where I live LOTS came on Sunday at 8 PM. During that time, out of the 25,000 Nielsen boxes, maybe 1,500 households watched. It would then be calculated and averaged that 1.5 million viewers tuned in. In reality 30 million households could have actually watched LOTS on Sunday at 8 PM. The rest of us, including myself, do not get counted in these numbers.
Nielsen also only tracks about 1.5 million DVR boxes, but doesn't count Netflix or Hulu views either. Genre shows generally cost more to produce. With the numbers Nielsen produces, it's understandable that it would scare away potential customers from purchasing commercial spots. Causing a show to get unjustly canceled. This is why cable shows last longer with lower ratings. They are not handcuffed by this system as you have to pay to acquire their service.
The Nielsen rating system needs to change. It's a medieval system that doesn't work anymore. Television shows are too expansive just to rely on it alone. As long as this dying system remains in place, viewers will continuously be robbed of great television. In a world where cheaper reality shows continue to take over our programming, this can not continue.
